4 great looks with glass vases

Even if you only have one glass vase at home in your cupboard you can create lots of different looks with a few simple techniques. Utilising pretty things you can find in your own house or garden you can change the look of your vase to match the flowers, a theme or the decor. In this first picture ww have used silvery gumnuts and foliage to tone in beautifully with the soft pretty flowers. It's a very soothing effect.

In this second picture we are using fine pieces of spear grass to line the vase. The vibrant green not only offsets the brightness of the blooms but also hides the stems of the flowers.

To create another style for your vase we have used a plastic container inside the vase wrapped in rope to give the vase a lovely rustic feel to match the country-feel flowers.

For our last look we are using pebbles in the vase. The white pebbles give the design a clean fresh feel.

Preparation for Valentine's Day is just amazing, past and present students from our Pearsons Commercial Course have had a great few days helping us prep thousands of roses and other beautiful blooms for delivery on Tuesday.
It's a great way to test your skills and get to know how to prepare for and run such a busy day. Part of our Industry Program includes students doing work experience in the Pearsons design centre for large events and special floral days.

It's a fantastic guide to caring for beautiful red roses but even more importantly it gives great tips on displaying any kind of flower in a vase. Whatever shape vase you have, simply adding a leaf wrap and using your foliage to make a grid will enhance your display.

When it comes to Full Day Styling Sessions at PSF, all our trainers fight to teach the wedding sessions (our clients love them too;they always book out early!). In late March we've got a gorgeous Sunday planned - SUNDAY WEDDING STYLING SESSION: 'AFTER FIVE'.

Spend the day creating the scene for a striking 'After 5' wedding gathering. Using seasonal blooms, luscious foliages and textural branches, and covering a range of styles we encourage our budding designers to see beyond the typical table arrangement and truly challenge the possibilities of decorating with flowers.

From the table to chairs and settings all will be covered. Discuss the finishing details that create the perfect wedding and personalise the flowers to suit the theme and personality of the big day!

Pictures from this wedding below, created by the talented team from the Pearsons Florist design centre, really inspired us with the attention to detail and perfect little touches. We especially loved the brooches on the flowers - absolute vintage glamour!

A blooming New Year

We are already halfway through January in 2012 and enjoying the star of this blooming New Year. Our fabulous team behind the scenes at Pearsons School of Floristry are busy working on our new Commercial Floristry Course to be launched in February.

We love the new holistic approach to floristry training which offers training in logical groups called 'clusters' allowing flexibility to tailor your training to your lifestyle.

Starting with Flower Care and Design you can move onto your Practical Floristry Skills and finish the Course with the Clusters that bring all your skills together.

Graduating designers who started their course in February this year have had their major display day this week. It's an exciting time for both students and trainers when we get to see the end result of all that hard work!

The standard from our Tuesday Group was amazing with wonderfully colourful displays inspired by Mexico, sweet garden designs and the theatre.

Pearsons demonstrators wow the crowds!

Visitors to Pearsons School of Floristry Open Day were wowed by demonstrations from 2 of our favourite designers. Marc Maurier from the Pearsons design centre demonstrated his skills with big, bold flowers perfect for a fantastic event. Marc is instrumental each week in the creation of some of the biggest displays for Pearsons large corporate and hotel clients.

We all just love Heidi's demos too. Heidi is a freelance stylist and teaches some of our Courses for Fun. Her set up is always bright and creative taking advantage of quirky vintage pieces from op shops and the best blooms of the season. Heidi demonstrated gorgeous styling to create unique wedding displays.

PSF successful OPEN DAY 2011

We were thrilled at the number of guests who visited us on OPEN DAY last Saturday. Thanks to everyone who came - we hope you enjoyed it. Students currently studying Certificate III in Floristry were invited to compete in floristry events.
Students from Term 1 were asked to create a Spring Posy and bring it in for judging on the day.

Students from Term 2 were asked to create a Spring Wreath at home to be judged on OPEN DAY.

Students from Term 3 participated in a Mystery Bucket Competition - they arrived 15 minutes before the start of the competition to find out what flowers and materials they could use for their creations. Term 3 students had to create a Hand-tied Bridal Bouquet incorporating roses!

Term 4 & Open Students were given the brief to create a corporate reception vase from the Mystery Bucket of flowers - gorgeous long lasting blooms - leucadendrons, alstroemeria and waratah were included.

Setting up for OPEN DAY in Darlinghurst

A dedicated team of florists and students were busy at our Oxford Street store this week creating fabulous displays for OPEN DAY for Saturday October the 8th. Designer Marc Maurier was the inspiration for his team of staff and students - his brief to create a Secret Garden!

Marc had students build a beautiful tree of fluttering ribbons and blooms, a cascade of flowers down the stairs and decorate a fabulous old-style car incorporated into our courtyard garden.

As well he designed a fabulous wedding party display featuring babies breath, a marvellous corporate array of flowers and a forest of flowers over the entrance to the store!

Holly, the manager of Pearsons Florist Bondi Junction store started her floral career as a student at Pearsons School of Floristry in 2007. Four years later and she has worked as a florist in a variety of Pearsons stores, been involved in event and wedding floristry and now is demonstating her beautiful floristry skills.

Holly made a large and very fashionable fish bowl vase of gorgeous spring flowers and showed the very attentive audience how to make blossom look great in a vase.
